Keratoconus Causes Irregular Vision That Can Progress Over Time

Keratoconus distorts the cornea's shape, creating a cone-like bulge that distorts how light enters the eye. This often leads to blurry or double vision, halos around lights, ghosting, and light sensitivity. The condition typically appears in adolescence or early adulthood and may progress gradually over time, especially if left undiagnosed.

Exams Focus on Refraction & Front-of-Eye Evaluation

Dr. Idris performs thorough vision checks and evaluates the front surface of the eye during routine and follow-up visits. For patients with keratoconus, prescription changes may occur more frequently than usual, so eye exams are tailored to catch shifts early. If corneal topography or tomography is needed, we coordinate referrals to local providers who offer advanced diagnostic imaging.

Soft Keratoconus Lenses & Piggyback Systems Available In-House

20/20 Eye Care offers several non-surgical options for vision correction in mild to moderate keratoconus. These include:

  • Keratocon soft lenses
  • Kerado soft lenses
  • Gas-permeable piggyback combinations (a gas-permeable lens over a soft lens for better comfort and stability)

These lenses are a good option for patients who aren’t yet ready for rigid lenses or who need a comfortable, customizable solution for everyday wear. Dr. Idris helps patients determine which lens system best fits their vision needs, prescription, and comfort goals.

Referral for Scleral Lenses & Crosslinking When Needed

Patients who need more advanced correction, such as scleral or hybrid lenses, or are candidates for corneal crosslinking, will be referred to trusted local specialists.

We work closely with these providers to ensure continuity of care, and Dr. Idris remains involved in your ongoing monitoring and glasses prescription updates as your condition evolves.
